Jonathan Stewardson was born in 1963, in London, and has been painting throughout his life. He paints mostly in oils, with his style being described as ‘Romantic Realism’. Having covered most subjects in his time, his favourite scene to paint is his hometown of London.
His paintings are often an attempt to paint a memory. Whether rough sleeping in the city, or during better times on the coast, Jonathan has always painted with emotion.
Some pictures seem a bit lonely, and when there are people, Jonathan sometimes likes to be one of them, painting himself into the scene. For example, he’s walking away from the viewer in his piece ‘Working in the City’, and has painted himself into beach scene crowds. Others may be people he once knew.
Previous commissions include works for The Crowned Prince of Dubai and The King of Saudi Arabia.
